Rheumatology Elective Information
Course Director: Dr. Holly Rothermel
Other Faculty: Dr. Patrick Whelan
Goals and Objectives of Rotation:
Residents should attain familiarity with the evaluation of children for suspected rheumatic disease. Educational goals include experience with the musculoskeletal examination, interpretation of rheumatologic tests, recognition of common patterns of presentations of arthritis and other connective tissue disease. Additional objective would be the understanding of other common conditions that mimic rheumatologic disease, and recognition of what symptoms might merit prompt referral. It is recommended that residents schedule some other relevant outpatient clinics, such as orthopedics, during the elective.
