Overview

Our research group resides within the Mucosal Immunology Laboratory of the Pediatrics Department. Granulocytes migrate across mucosal barriers during infectious and idiopathic disease. This process can become overly aggressive, lacking appropriate resolution and culminating in tissue damage. Our group seeks to better understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie granulocyte breach of the mucosal barrier with the objective of therapeutically controlling this process in the context of mucosal inflammatory disease. In addition, we are actively investigating the diverse array of threats, including microbes, toxins, and allergens that can impact the mucosal surface by damaging, compromising barrier integrity, and/or eliciting host inflammatory responses.
