In an effort to bring children and families together and create a space which supports community building, creativity, exploration, self-confidence, learning and fun, we offer a wide range of unique opportunities throughout the year. Below are just some of the many programs and special events which we offer.
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy- Visits from 8 foot long fiberglass Great White Shark, Lizzy, who “swims” from room to room visiting patients and spreading toothy smiles to all “Shark Surprise”
Camp Day- Provides an exciting outdoor event to explore camp-like activities and offers children the opportunity to connect with one another "Camps, Crafts and Laughs"
Children’s Yoga- Yoga class to help promote relaxation, confidence, balance, empowerment and self-expression for children ages 2-10 lead by the Pedi Hem-Onc Child Life Team who are certified to teach children’s yoga. “A pitcher’s promise”
Fall for the Arts- Autumn community celebration recognizing the involvement of children in the expressive arts therapies offered at the clinic “Celebrating community”
Capturing the Essence of Patients in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology- Event providing professional black and white portraits of children and their families. “Capturing Smiles on Camera”
HOP Program (Hole In The Wall Gang Camp Hospital Outreach Program) – Brings the spirit of camp...including opportunities for play, creativity and self-expression...to the clinic
Kaleidoscope- Rotating exhibit which highlights the artistic expression of our patients and their siblings as well as fosters a child-friendly environment. “Art of Healing”
My Story in Beads- These beautiful beads strung on a leather strand symbolically document the course of a child’s unique treatment journey. “Celebrating the arts in Pediatric Oncology”
National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month- Special September programming for children impacted by cancer and their families
One Summit’s Climb for Courage- Collaboration with One Summit which partners children with a Navy SEAL who offers support and mentorship during an inspiring indoor rock climbing event. “Tackling cancer one rock at a time”
Our Space Rocks- Seasonally inspired, festive, monthly crafts offered to patients and siblings
Ryan’s Case for Smiles- Sewing group which engages children in creating personalized pillow-cases using child-friendly fabrics
SEA Star- Offers children and their families an opportunity to experience the New England Aquarium after hours for a unique, crowd-free, educational and fun-filled visit
Slime Time- Hosted by the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Slime Time celebrates silliness and the joy of making a mess offering children a chance to “slime” their child life specialists and other care team members in addition to making their own slime creations. “Gooey Surprise”
Spring Egg Hunt- Spring event for young children to search for eggs at the Healing Garden and partake in special crafts and activities. “Hopping along”
STEAM Team- Established by the Museum of Science, this program provides engaging hands-on engineering and science activities which build self-confidence and creativity in children.
Trick-Or-Treating- Children and their siblings participate in a safe, child-friendly, Halloween event throughout the Yawkey building. “Cowboys, crayons and cheerleaders, oh my!”
