Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation by a pediatric hematologist-oncologist. The evaluation includes a health history, physical examination, blood tests and x-rays depending on the diagnosis.
Multidisciplinary Team, Expert Care
Patients have access to multidisciplinary teams that specialize in the treatment of children with sickle cell anemia and other anemias, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, thrombosis and stroke. Our pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, pain team, neurologists, infectious disease specialists and radiologists are all involved in the care of children with blood disorders.
Our multidisciplinary team also includes highly skilled pediatric nurses, social workers, child psychiatrists and child life specialists with unique training in the care of children with blood disorders.
Team members remain in communication with the referring physician, who is an important member of the treatment team. The care continues with treatment recommendations and long-term management if indicated.
We are affiliated with regional, national and international societies that focus on hematological problems in children including sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia.
