Meet the Team
The Tourette Syndrome/Tic Disorders Clinic at MassGeneral Hospital for Children is a specialized multidisciplinary clinic and regional referral center for adult and pediatric patients with Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders.
Our treatment approach depends on many factors, including the patient's age, severity of symptoms, co-occurring conditions and patient preference for pharmacological and/or behavioral treatments. Every plan begins with education on topics such as disease management and impact on school or work function.
The Tourette Syndrome/Tic Disorders Clinic collaborates closely with child, adolescent and adult psychiatry to provide, when appropriate, non-pharmacologic therapies such as:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Habit Reversal Therapy (HRT)
- Co-management of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, anxiety and behavioral issues
In addition, we will provide advocacy, education and support to parents and schools in planning for educational needs/accommodations related to 504/IEP plans.
A close relationship exists between the clinic and the research laboratory, offering opportunities for patients to participate in ongoing research. At MassGeneral Hospital for Children, we are conducting research to help us identify the causes for Tourette syndrome and to develop the next generation of treatments and interventions.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an unreasonable thought, fear, or worry that he or she tries to manage through a ritualized activity to reduce the anxiety.
Tourette's Disorder
Tourette's disorder (TD), sometimes called Tourette's syndrome (TS), is a neurological disorder characterized by multiple repeated tics.
