The Pediatric Cardiology Service at MassGeneral Hospital for Children provides personalized, multidisciplinary cardiac care to infants, children, and adolescents with congenital or acquired heart disease.
Extensive Experience and Excellent Results
The extensive experience of our pediatric cardiologists results in excellent outcomes in interventional cardiology, echocardiography, and fetal cardiology. We have particular expertise in the area of percutaneous transcatheter techniques, which are minimally invasive, allowing for quicker recovery and reduced scarring. Several procedures, pioneered at the hospital’s Center for Excellence in Interventional Cardiology, give us the ability to correct cardiac defects as non-invasively as possible.
As part of our preventive pediatric cardiology program, we also evaluate children and families with lipid disorders. Children with cardiac rhythm disturbances are managed by state-of-the-art techniques.
Individualized Care from Senior Physicians
Children visiting our pediatric cardiology service are treated by attending physicians rather than by residents. With an emphasis on continuity of care, the same pediatric cardiologist cares for the child throughout the course of treatment. Should cardiac surgery be indicated, we refer the patient to the most appropriate cardiac surgeon. We involve the family and the referring physician in the child’s treatment and care and are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions from both the family and the family’s healthcare providers. We remain in contact with the family pediatrician throughout the course of treatment.
State-of-the-Art Facilities in a World-Renowned Academic Medical Center
The Cardiac Catherization Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility. Our echo lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission on Accreditation of Echo Laboratories (ICAEL) for pediatric transthoracic, transesophageal, and fetal echocardiography. The Cardiac Ultrasound Laboratory is among the most advanced non-invasive testing facilities in the world. Current research includes new modalities of imaging congenital heart disease, development of new devices to correct cardiac defects by minimally invasive transcatheter techniques and the genetic mapping of congenital heart disease.
Direct Consultation and a Location Near You
Our pediatric cardiac physicians are available quickly for appointments and consultation. Either families or healthcare providers may make referrals or inquiries by calling 617-726-3826. In keeping with our commitment to make our services accessible to the children and families we serve, we also see patients at Cape Cod, Haverhill, Lawrence General Hospital, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and North Shore Children's Hospital.
At MassGeneral Hospital for Children, we know that the time of your child’s diagnosis and treatment is a very stressful one and we strive to provide an open, welcoming environment. We believe that no one knows a child as well as the parent does: parents, along with primary care providers, become our partners in a child's care and have an active voice in all treatment plans.
