The Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit at MassGeneral Hospital for Children provides multidisciplinary care for children with gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders.

Comprehensive Care

Patients receive comprehensive care from a sixteen-member physician faculty as well as a staff that includes seven nurse practitioners with advanced expertise in pediatric gastroenterology and three masters-level licensed dietitians.

Our pediatric gastroenterologists and child nutrition specialists practice at seventeen locations around eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire including Boston; Newton; Salem; Waltham; Brockton; Concord; Fall River; Forestdale; Lawrence; Leominster; Lowell; Newburyport; North Dartmouth; Taunton; and Manchester, New Hampshire.

Specialized services including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography are available at MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston, MassGeneral for Children at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and MassGeneral for Children at NSMC North Shore Children’s.

The Pediatric Gastrointestinal Laboratory offers specialized testing including:

  • Neurotransmitter studies (for Hirschsprung’s disease and intestinal neuronal dysplasia)
  • Anti-epithelial cell antibodies (for autoimmune enteropathy)
  • Specific activity of lactase, sucrase and maltase in the intestine (for evaluation of malabsorption)
