Lipid Disorders Program
Led by Mary Etta King, MD, who completed a two-year clinical fellowship in the management of pediatric lipid disorders, this program provides evaluation and treatment of children with suspected or known familial or acquired lipid disorders, or whose family history (e.g., early myocardial infarction, familial hypercholesterolemia) suggests a familial lipid disorder.
Services, which may involve coordination of other Mass General specialists in gastroenterology and/or endocrinology, include management with diet, exercise, and smoking-cessation and, when necessary, conservative use of medications. Also available are the services of Mass General’s Cardiac Metabolic Syndrome Program, which is tailored for patients at increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease resulting from obesity and/or metabolic syndrome.
