MGH Back Bay provides children, adolescents, adults, and seniors with outstanding primary care from a convenient location in Boston's Back Bay. Most primary care physicians are board-certified in family medicine or med / peds, which means they have the expertise to care for every member of your family, from infants to the elderly.
Additional Services
MGH Back Bay provides several medical specialties on site as well as access to many more at Mass General's main campus. Laboratory specimens can be drawn on site. Radiology services are provided at the hospital's main campus.
Hours
MGH Back Bay is opened Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is on-call coverage twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Directions
From the North (Rt. 93): Take 93 South into Boston, exit to Storrow Drive, exit at Kenmore Square and turn left onto Commonwealth Ave to 388 Commonwealth Ave.
From Cambridge: Take Massachusetts Ave to Commonwealth Ave, turn right onto Commonwealth Ave, turn left again on Commonwealth to 388 Commonwealth Ave.
From the West: Take 128 to the Massachusetts Turnpike. Exit at Copley Square and take a right on Dartmouth Street. The Boston Public Library will be on your left. Take Dartmouth Street to left on Commonwealth Ave. and turn left at Charlesgate East and left again on Commonwealth Ave. (Commonwealth Ave. is divided by a tree-lined mall.)
From the South: Take 93 North to the Massachusetts Ave. exit and turn right on to Mass Ave. Follow Mass Ave. and take a right onto Beacon Street. Take a left onto Charlesgate East and then take a left onto Commonwealth Ave. to 388 Commonwealth Ave.
Parking
There is a parking garage directly behind MGH Back Bay on Newbury Street Extension. Newbury Street Extension is the part of Newbury Street on the other side of Massachusetts Avenue. There is metered on street parking also available.
Public Transportation
MGH Back Bay is easily accessible by public transportation. Take the T Green Line to the Hynes Convention Center Stop on Massachusetts Ave. The Green Lines to the Hynes Convention Center are: “B” Boston College, “C” Cleveland Circle and “D” Riverside. MGH Back Bay is about a five-minute walk from the Hynes stop.
Billing
We request that you please make any required payments or co-payments at the time of your visit. We accept cash and personal checks. Should you have questions regarding your bill, please call the Mass General Billing Office at 617-726-2040.Insurance
We accept most major insurance carriers and managed health care plans. Please confirm that we accept your health care plan before your first visit or when you change carriers. If your plan requires you to choose a primary care physician, please make sure to name your MGH Back Bay doctor.
Referrals
Your primary care physician is responsible for arranging all of your medical care, including referrals to specialists. If you think you require the care of a specialist, please call your physician for the appropriate referral.
Prescriptions
Prescriptions can be refilled by calling the Prescription Refill Line at 617-585-7441. Please leave your name, phone number, name of the prescription, and the telephone number of your pharmacy. Prescriptions received between 9:00 a.m. Monday and 12:00 p.m. Friday will be filled the next day.
Lab Results
Your primary care physician will mail most laboratory results directly to you. In case of an urgent result, or if further tests are needed, a physician will call you as soon as possible.
