The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at MassGeneral Hospital for Children provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with the full spectrum of psychiatric conditions and behavioral or emotional difficulties in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Services include diagnostic evaluations, consultations, and behavioral management.

Consultative Care is provided for patients with problems including, but not limited to:

  • ADHD
  • Adjustment Disorders
  • Anxiety
  • Conduct Disorders
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders
  • Psychosis

Additionally, staff members from our department are recognized for their expertise in other areas such as Bipolar, Obsessive Compulsive, Oppositional Defiant Disorders and coping with medical illnesses. Our staff provides expertise in clinical services including behavioral medicine, cognitive-behavior therapy, pediatric consultation liaison, pediatric psychopharmacology, psychosocial assessment in pediatrics, sports psychology, adoption, custody, and child abuse.

Treatment Centers

Our clinicians provide twenty-four-hour-a-day coverage in the MGH Acute Psychiatry Service for children. Inpatient evaluation and treatment are also available through McLean Hospital. The Adolescent Acute Residential Treatment Unit in Belmont additionally offers substance abuse relapse prevention and specialized treatment for adolescents at risk for long-term psychosocial dysfunction. The Klarman Eating Disorder Center in Belmont is also available to females aged thirteen to twenty-two.
