By integrating talented and inquiring minds from academia, healthcare, engineering labs, scientific research and industry, together with superb medical and graduate students, the Center for Integration of Medicine & Innovative Technology gives new meaning to the term “learning laboratory.”

Consortium Institutions & Partnerships
Theis a vibrant community of highly motivated collaborators who meet to learn from each other and identify gaps in healthcare where known and emerging technologies could solve clinical problems. The technology-rich Boston-area community of medical-device companies and industrial laboratories provided additional leverage.
CIMIT’sinvolves convening experts from relevant disciplines, facilitating their interaction and sponsoring their collaborative initiatives to revolutionize patient care. A critical element in how the consortium identifies and connects clinical champions with scientists and technologies are .
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP
A highly productive relationship has been built between theand CIMIT. In addition to running the largest health maintenance organization in the nation by providing care for military personnel and their dependents, the DoD is keenly interested in the quality of , as well as the .
CIMIT is dedicated to helping develop medical technology that will help both military and civilian patients. In 2007, CIMIT hosted a symposium on, convening national and regional experts to explore potential research collaborations to address this important national issue.
- is partnered with CIMIT in defining and developing many different innovative medical technologies.
- is partnered with CIMIT in developing and demonstrating techniques for (particularly for training first responders), new approaches to physiological monitoring, and new techniques for care in the field.
CIMIT is an established consortium and the recognized model for effective innovation in translational research. The evidence from the 10 year experience in Boston validates that CIMIT is making a difference in healthcare, and that this difference would not have occurred with usual systems and funding sources. CIMIT seeks to test the transferability of this model beyond the greater Boston area. CIMIT believes a thoughtful affiliation with like-minded consortiums outside Boston will help CIMIT achieve its mission.
To better understand the concept of transferability, CIMIT now is engaging targeted centers/consortiums as International Affiliates. The underlying hypothesis is that the whole will be greater then the sum of the parts. Since 2006, CIMIT has been exploring the appropriate structure and site for replicating the model internationally. CIMIT and UK Manchester have a Memorandum of Understanding whereby UK Manchester became the first CIMIT International Affiliate —.
