Rebecca A. Aslakson, MD, is a critical care anesthesiologist, palliative care physician, and investigator at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. Her career goal is to improve delivery of palliative care to seriously ill patients and their families, particularly in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and surgical settings. Dr. Aslakson’s content expertise includes implementation of ICU-based palliative care interventions, palliative care-related critical care outcomes, instrument-based advance care planning tools, patient-centered outcomes and patient-centered research. She leads multiple research projects in a variety of acute and non-acute care settings, including being the principal investigator of a patient-centered outcomes institute award to develop a video-based advance care planning tool for patients and families preparing for high-risk surgery.
