Mass General again ranks highly among America's top hospitals
Massachusetts General Hospital is again ranked among the top hospitals in the nation in. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals evaluated, Mass General has consistently placed among the top hospitals on the Honor Roll since the survey began in 1990. This year, Mass General is ranked #1 in New England and #2 in the United States.
Mass General receives the honor of having eight specialties ranked among the Top 5 in the nation, including: Gastroenterology (GI), Nephrology, Pulmonology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and Psychiatry. Another seven specialties, including Cancer, Cardiology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Geriatrics, Gynecology, Rehabilitation and Rheumatology are ranked among the Top 10.
The oldest and largest hospital in New England, Mass General also conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the U.S., and this year was redesignated a Magnet hospital, the highest honor for nursing excellence awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Founded in 1811, Massachusetts General Hospital (www.massgeneral.org) is the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The 950-bed medical center each year admits approximately 48,000 inpatients; handles nearly 1.5 million visits in its extensive outpatient programs at the main campus, four health centers and satellite facilities; and records more than 90,000 visits to its Emergency Department.
