Burn Intensive Care Unit
The Burn Intensive Care Unit is part of the Sumner Redstone Burn Center, one of only four Verified Adult Burn Centers in New England. Massachusetts General Hospital is a leader in providing critical care for patients with thermal, electrical and chemical burns, cold injury and skin diseases or infection.
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
Patients with critical cardiac illness, who are not recovering from heart surgery, are cared for in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). This includes patients with heart attack or severe heart failure who are awaiting a heart transplant or implantation of a ventricular assist device.
Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit
The Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) cares for critically ill patients after cardiac or thoracic surgical procedures to treat coronary artery, valvular, aortic and congenital heart diseases, and following heart transplants or implantation of ventricular assist devices.
Medical Intensive Care Unit
The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) cares for patients with a wide variety of serious medical illnesses. These patients present complex, comorbid conditions from sepsis to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome to multiple organ failure.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Patty Ribakoff Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides Level II and III neonatal critical care for premature, very-low birth weight and seriously ill full-term newborns and infants with congenital birth defects.
Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit
Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) patients receive intensive medical and nursing management for stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, seizure, head and spinal cord injuries, and post-surgical and post-interventional conditions.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
The MassGeneral Hospital for Children Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 14-bed, multidisciplinary unit, which has distinguished itself by providing high quality care for critically ill infants, children and adolescents. Our patients present with a wide variety of life-threatening issues, such as severe infections, respiratory diseases, trauma and post-operative care of various complex surgeries.
Surgical Intensive Care Unit
The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) cares for critically ill patients recovering from general, thoracic, trauma, vascular, orthopedic, gynecologic and obstetric surgeries.
