Each year the International Meetings Program at Massachusetts General Hospital's Cardiovascular Research Center co-sponsors three scientific meetings. Through these meetings the center brings together world-renowned scientists from universities and industries around the world to share their latest findings. Together, these meetings bring the most distinguished and creative scientists to present their perspectives on the latest in scientific discoveries.
MGH-Fondation IPSEN-CELL Press Exciting Biologies:
Co-organized by the Cardiovascular Research Center at MGH, the Fondation IPSEN and Cell Press, this meeting is held each fall in a different international venue. Topics for each workshop are selected from areas of study where there is an emerging intersection between disciplines, as well as the potential to identify new frontiers in biomedicine. Each year the meeting organizers post a call for abstracts on the topic for the upcoming workshop. Participants are invited to attend the workshop based upon the strength of their submitted abstracts. By limiting participation to a small group of committed scientists, we create an atmosphere that fosters lengthy group discussions. We hope the event will serve as a stimulus for scientists working in related fields to find common themes.
The 2008 meeting called 'Biology of Cognition' will explore five cognitive areas: learning, memory and fear; perception and attention; reward and decision making; language and numerical processing and social cognition, bringing together researchers from cognitive science, systems neuroscience, cognitive psychology, molecular/cellular neuroscience, genetics and neuropathology. We aim to stimulate interactions between scientists working on various aspects of cognition in humans, non-human primates and other model systems and to find common themes among the questions being addressed. more >> register >>
MGH-Nature Publishing Group China Forum:
The Cardiovascular Research Center and Nature Publishing Group co-coordinate the China Forum, which is held in a different Chinese city every year. China is an increasingly attractive destination for biotechnology and pharmaceutical research and this forum works to highlight the opportunities and challenges in this rapidly evolving country.
This year’s forum “Molecular Medicine and Biopharma Opportunities,” was held in Hong Kong from March 5th-6th. This conference brought together leading academic and industry scientists from throughout the world to discuss the advances in molecular medicine in China. As well as identify important market opportunities - from stem cell research to cardiovascular disease. Senior executives from biopharmaceutical companies and award wining scientists revealed how China is playing a key role in biotechnology and pharmaceutical R & D. The goal being to provide first-hand experiences of navigating the unique and complex scientific, regulatory and intellectual property issues, and discuss the current and future environment for partnering strategies. more >>
MGH-KI-Cell Press Days of Molecular Medicine:
Starting in 2008, the Cardiovascular Research Center at MGH and the Karolinska Institutet are pleased to announce that moving forward they will be working with a new co-organizer, Cell Press. The Days of Molecular Medicine will continue to be an interdisciplinary two and a half day symposium held every spring, rotating between Boston, Massachusetts and Stockholm, Sweden. The meeting brings together scientists and physicians from both academia and the private sector, whose work is capitalizing on utilizing regenerative medicine to address specific human disease. This symposium will highlight emerging work by leaders in this field, creating new bridges between multiple disciplines.
Furthermore, The Days of Molecular Medicine hosts travel scholarships for MD-PhD students. Students are selected from the highest caliber MD-PhD's programs throughout the world. Each selected student presents a short oral presentation or a poster during the symposium on their ongoing work within the context of the meeting.
The Days of Molecular Medicine 2009 will held from May 7 - 9, in Boston, Massachusetts. The event, entitled Human Genomics, Stem cells and Physiology: The Future of Individualized Medicine, will play host to hundreds of scientists from around the world. more >>
