Health Decision Sciences Center: Let's Decide Together!

The Health Decision Sciences Center (HDSC) within the General Medicine Division is a multidisciplinary research group that is committed to improving the quality of decisions made by patients and health care providers about medical testing and treatment.

Our Mission
The mission of the Health Decision Sciences Center is to promote conversations and systems of care that value the expertise of patients, families, clinicians and the best available clinical evidence in medical decisions.

Learn more about our three main activities:

  1. Development of Decision Quality Instruments to measure the extent to which patients are informed, meaningfully involved and receive treatments that match their goals.
  2. Implementation of shared decision making at Mass General and across different practice settings.
  3. Development and maintenance of decision support tools, such as patient decision aids, to support shared decision making for common medical decisions.

These activities are conducted in collaboration with investigators at Mass General, including the John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation and the Mass General Gillette Center for Women’s Cancers, as well as others nationwide. The HDSC collaborates with and receives support from the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation as well as other organizations.
