The goal of the Breast Cancer Initiative is to disseminate breast cancer decision aids and evaluate the implementation of decision aids in different settings across the United States. There are five programs that cover the major decisions that women with breast cancer may face in a comprehensive and easy to understand manner. The programs feature many breast cancer survivors who talk about their experiences and how they came to select their treatment.

Organizations that counsel women facing decisions about treatment of breast cancer are eligible to receive up to 10 copies of the following programs each time they make a request:

  • DCIS: Choosing Your Treatment
  • Early Stage Breast Cancer: Choosing Your Surgery
  • Breast Reconstruction: Is It Right For You?
  • Hormone Therapy and Chemotherapy: Are They Right For You?
  • Living With Metastatic Breast Cancer: Making the Journey Your Own

Several sites are collecting data from patients about the impact of the programs on decision quality. All sites participate in yearly interviews or mailed surveys during which they give feedback about their implementation. Please contact decisions@partners.org if you would like to learn more about this initiative.  You may also consult our FAQ sheet:
