Bone Marrow Transplant Clearance - Dental

Consultation with a general dentist is an important pre-procedural checkpoint prior to any bone marrow transplant.

The process of receiving a bone marrow transplant can cause anemia, bleeding, and a lowered immune system.  The oral cavity, which harbors many microorganisms, can be a site of complication from transplantation.  Our general dentists have special training and expertise in preparing patients for bone marrow transplants and in managing the oral complications during and after patients' medical treatment.  They work closely with Mass General's oncologists in caring for transplant patients.

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia
