Malocclusion

Also known as a "bad bite," malocclusion is the misalignment of teeth and jaws.

Malocclusion is a misalignment of the teeth and jaws sometimes leading to "overbites," "underbites," and "crossbites."   Left untreated, malocclusion can lead to problems such as temporomandibular joint disorder, problems with gums, and problems with jaw muscles.  Malocclusion can also lead to excessive force distributed across the bite causing damaged teeth and crowns.  Treatment for maloccusion may involve a team of dental specialists, including an orthodontist, general dentist, and in some cases an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or prosthodontist.
