The Clinical Unit for Research Trials in Skin (CURTIS) offers a 1-2 year Clinical Training Program in Clinical Trials and Outcomes Research. Under the direction of Alexa Boer Kimball, MD, MPH, fellows will be introduced to the fundamental principles of conducting Clinical Trials for novel therapeutics in Dermatology including understanding how to design, implement and analyze trials under the principles of Good Clinical Practice and ethical standards. They will also have an opportunity to participate in dermatology clinic and design and conduct studies of their own, in addition to participating in ongoing and new projects based in the Unit. Trainees will be expected to present their work at regional and national meetings and publish their findings when appropriate.

Fellowship goals and objectives: To master the fundamental principles of conducting Clinical Trials in Dermatology including gaining fundamental knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of skin disease and understanding how to design, implement and analyze trials under the principles of Good Clinical Practice and accepted ethical standards.
Half day clinical Session/per week under supervision. This session lays critical groundwork as it allows fellows to develop their skills in clinical assessments, understand alternative therapies to study treatments so they can counsel study subjects about their options, and manage patient questions about their diseases. Fellows participate in ongoing research in the Unit and in designing and implementing their own projects. Most trainees develop several publications over this time.
