Where Graduates Work
The Dietetic Internship at Massachusetts General Hospital is one of the oldest in the country and prides itself on the unique variety and excellent learning experiences offered in many areas of dietetics.
The Mass General Dietetic Internship provides interns with a strong dietetics core preparation. Rotations in ambulatory care, acute clinical care, food service systems management, community, and business entrepreneurship meet the core competencies. A large and qualified staff of registered dietitians and food service managers with various specialties provides one-on-one interaction, guidance and feedback to dietetic interns. Interns are given the opportunity to work with a diverse and complex population of patients and employees.
The Mass General Dietetic Internship is a 50-week full-time, comprehensive program. Our pass rate of those taking the RD exam for the first time is 95 percent. Being part of the Mass General Dietetic Internship allows you to take part in current advancements within the hospital. Interns are able to play a role in Mass General’s “BeFit” program, which is an employee wellness program promoting good nutrition and physical activity. Interns also contribute to menu development for Mass General’s eight retail operations, explore the impact of disease upon complex patient’s nutritional status and wellness and complete projects of individual interest. Being a dietetic intern at Mass General allows you to be part of the nationwide network of Mass General internships graduates.
Applicants to the internship must complete a bachelor’s degree and Didactic Program in Dietetics requirements prior to the start of the program.
The Massachusetts General Hospital Dietetic Internship Program provides in-depth and diverse supervised practice experiences required for individual eligibility to take a national examination and become a Registered Dietitian as well as for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The program has two start dates; half of the class will start in June and the other half in October.
Successful completion of all components of the internship year is required for graduation from the program, for verification of completion by the Dietetic Internship Director and eligibility to write the registration examination.
