By Train – Commuter Rail and Amtrak
print this page

The Commuter Rail consists of AMTRAK trains which function as part of the "T."
They are distinguished by the color purple; and sometimes called the Purple Line, but, more often, they are simply called the Commuter Rail.

To get to MGH by Commuter Rail or by regular AMTRAK service from another city, take a train to either South Station or North Station.

From South Station
• Take the Alewife-bound Red Line train to Charles Street/MGH Station
• Follow exit signs to MGH
• Follow Cambridge Street one block
• Take left onto North Grove Street
• The main entrance is straight ahead

From North Station
• There is a free Partners shuttle bus that runs between MGH and North Station
