My professional interests are focused on regional anesthesia and pain management to optimize the anesthesia care of patients undergoing a broad spectrum of surgical procedures. I am particularly interested in the use of upper and lower extremity blocks for orthopedic surgeries, paravertebral blocks for breast reconstruction, and epidural blockade for post-operative pain management. I have developed protocols incorporating regional and general anesthesia and post-operative pain management for patients undergoing a number of ambulatory orthopedic procedures at Mass General.

Another interest of mine is the impact of anticoagulation medications on choice of anesthetic technique, in particular the implications for spinal, epidural and peripheral regional anesthetic techniques. I have written Mass General guidelines for anticoagulation and the performance of neuraxial anesthesia.

I am actively involved in teaching the MGH anesthesia residents regional anesthesia skills, ultrasound technology in regional anesthesia, and peri-operative pain management with a focus on ambulatory patients.
