About Kenneth Shelton, MD

Dr. Kenneth Shelton is a critical care physician and cardiac anesthesiologist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Shelton currently serves as the chief of the Critical Care Division in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine and the medical co-director of the Heart Center Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Shelton completed medical school at the University of California in San Francisco before completing anesthesiology residency and fellowships in critical care and cardiac anesthesiology at Mass General. Dr. Shelton is board-certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

Dr. Shelton’s academic interests include cardiac critical care medicine, echocardiography, perioperative outcomes research, bioinformatics, medical education and quality improvement. Dr. Shelton served as the director of Perioperative and Critical Care Echocardiography in the Department of Anesthesiology from 2015-2019. Dr. Shelton has published extensively on cardiac critical care medicine and is a dedicated clinical teacher.
