The center now accommodates an additional fluoroscopy suite, two patient exam rooms, a waiting room, a staff lounge and multipurpose fellow and physician workspaces. The floor plan for the center was reconfigured to provide enhanced patient-centered care and ensure patient privacy and comfort. During the renovations, the center also transitioned all of its patient records to electronic systems.
MGH employees, patients and referring physicians had the opportunity to see the new space Nov. 2 at an afternoon open house. Approximately 200 guests visited the center, touring the addition and meeting center staff. Leaders from the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the event included Jeanine P. Wiener-Kronish, MD, chief of the department; James P. Rathmell, MD, chief of the Division of Pain Medicine; Susan Chapman Moss, executive director of the department; and Don Cornuet, administrative manager. Remarks were given by Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president, and Ann Prestipino, senior vice president of Surgical and Anesthesia Services and Clinical Business Development.
"Today, we congratulate you on the development of such wonderful new space, the excellent care you provide to so many, and your dedication and phenomenal achievements in the field of pain medicine," said Slavin.
Added Prestipino in her remarks: "Over the past two years, we have seen not only the opening of this clinic space, but also an expanding set of clinical services dedicated to pain management as well as strengthened relationships with Emerson Hospital and at our satellite location at Mass General West. On behalf of my colleagues, I can say with confidence that, as we look to the future, we are enthusiastic about the strength of the staff of this center and their proven leadership in the field of pain management."
