Annual Julie Fund Walk
Some 300 individuals gathered along the Charles River June 16 for the seventh annual Julie Fund Walk. This year the event raised more than $60,000 for ovarian cancer research, education and patient support at the MGH Cancer Center. The fund was established in honor of Julie Paige McAvinn, a Cancer Center patient who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2004 at age 40. A team of 15 MGH staff members – including Michael Birrer, MD, PhD, director of medical gynecologic oncology and the gynecologic cancer research program – were among the walkers.
