Storybook Ball supports MGHfC nutrition, music and art therapy

Supporting pediatric patients was among the favorite things of some 500 guests who attended the 13th annual Storybook Ball Oct. 20 at the Museum of Fine Arts. “The Sound of Music”-themed event featured dancing, dinner, carnival games and a live auction. This year’s proceeds – more than $1.3 million – will help further pediatric nutrition and music and art therapy programs at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). The evening included a video highlighting the story of Tommy McGraw, an 8-year-old proton therapy patient from Tacoma, Wash. Sporting a tuxedo and toting a stuffed shark wearing a black bowtie, Tommy was on hand as his father, Lt. Col. Joseph “Jake” McGraw, thanked MGHfC staff and clinicians for their support. Guests bid on auction items ranging from front row tickets to a Justin Bieber concert and a chance to meet the teen heartthrob to a package from Aerosmith bassist Todd Hamilton featuring tickets and backstage passes to a concert in Los Angeles. Event sponsors included Barneys New York, Bloomingdale’s, Boston Bruins, Cooley Manion Jones, LLP, Euro-Pro, Fresh, Goldman, Sachs & Co., HBO, Intermix, KAUFMANFRANCO, Mandarin Oriental, Neiman Marcus, New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, Rafanelli Events, Serenella, Twin Farms, Valentino and Winston Flowers. The event was co-chaired by Kerry Swords and Katherine O’Keeffe.
