Primary Care

Health care providers at MGH Downtown Primary Care perform routine physical exams, and help to coordinate treatment of complex medical problems and referrals to specialists. We also offer our patients preventive services and wellness programs.


After-hours Coverage

We provide physician coverage for our existing patients' urgent needs, 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Please call our office at 617-728-6000 and a physician can be called for you. Patients with medical emergencies should call 911.


Same Day/Urgent Care

Same day and urgent care services provide existing MGH Downtown patients with appointments for immediate medical needs when they cannot be seen by their primary care physician. To request an urgent care or same day appointment, our patients should call our office at 617-728-6000.


Behavioral Health

Our behavioral health specialists and case managers offer confidential counseling to our patients to help address behavioral, emotional and substance abuse issues. We can also connect patients with referrals to other providers and helpful community resources. The MGH Downtown team supports our patients every step of the way.


Interpreters Services

Patients who require a translator should let us know when booking their appointment, and we will arrange for a translator to be present during the appointment.


Prescription Refills

Current patients can request prescription refills online using Partners Patient Gateway or by calling their pharmacy directly. When requesting a prescription refill, patients should have on hand the name of the medication, the dosage and the telephone number of their pharmacy.

Most prescription renewals will be filled within 48 hours. Any requests received after noon on Friday will not be filled until the next business day. We urge patients to plan ahead so prescriptions will be ready when they are needed.


Referrals

MGH Downtown physicians are responsible for arranging all medical care, including referrals to specialists. If the patient and their health care team decide that a specialist is needed, patients will be referred to a physician within the Partners HealthCare Network.

The specialist’s care team will contact patients directly to schedule a referred appointment. Patients can also contact our Central Referral Line at 866-489-4046. Please be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Name and call back telephone number
  • Mass General medical record number or date of birth
  • The name of the specialist
  • Appointment date and time
  • Visit reason
  • Insurance company name and policy number

Routine referrals may take up to 14 days to process.
