Fellows at OMNI work with staff and faculty to advance innovative research in obesity medicine.

The Massachusetts General Hospital Clinical and Research Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition provides trainees with advanced knowledge and clinical experience in the complex and emerging field of obesity medicine.

This two to three-year fellowship takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating obesity and its related comorbidities by nutritional, behavioral, pharmacological and surgical means.

During the first year, fellows train in the clinical environment of the Mass General Weight Center, becoming familiar with how to treat patients with obesity and related disorders. Completion of the first year will enable trainees to:

  • Assess patients with obesity
  • Determine appropriate treatment plans, including combination therapies
  • Utilize novel therapies for treating obesity
  • Complete full pre-operative evaluations for surgical patients
  • Provide comprehensive post-operative medical and nutritional care for patients
  • Educate physicians in other subspecialties about the emerging field of obesity medicine

During the second year, trainees begin a clinical or basic science research project that is completed under supervision and mentorship from a staff member at the Obesity, Metabolism and Nutrition Institute.

Requirements

The two to three-year Clinical and Research Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition is available to physicians who have completed an accredited residency program in internal medicine, pediatrics or surgery.
