Investing in Obesity Medicine Leaders

Fellows at OMNI develop clinical and research skills in obesity medicine.
Fellows at OMNI work with our clinical staff to develop skills in obesity medicine.

The Advanced Subspecialty Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition centers on a multidisciplinary approach to the complexities of treating obesity. Throughout their training, obesity medicine fellows will learn how to treat patients with obesity and related comorbidities by nutritional, behavioral, pharmacological and surgical means.

This one-year fellowship is available to trainees who have completed a fellowship in another subspecialty discipline in internal medicine or pediatrics (e.g. endocrinology, critical care medicine, nutrition, etc.). Obesity medicine fellows train in the clinical environment of the Mass General Weight Center, becoming familiar with how to treat patients with obesity and related disorders. Completion of the program will enable trainees to:

  • Assess patients with obesity
  • Determine appropriate treatment plans, including combination therapies
  • Utilize novel therapies for treating obesity
  • Complete full pre-operative evaluations for surgical patients
  • Provide comprehensive post-operative medical and nutritional care for patients
  • Educate physicians in other subspecialties about the emerging field of obesity medicine

Requirements

The Advanced Subspecialty Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition is available to physicians who have completed an accredited fellowship in a subspecialty of internal medicine or pediatrics, including endocrinology, gastroenterology and nutrition. Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. degree and be eligible to practice medicine in the United States.
