The new Lunder Building significantly expanded the amount of clinical treatment space in the Emergency Department.

The Lunder Building Emergency Department features
five ambulatory Triage bays.
Although the Emergency Department expanded into the Lunder Building in July of 2011, the full benefits of this additional space will not be completely realized until late in 2014, when the department’s detailed phasing plan to renovate existing treatment areas is projected to be complete. Some benefits of the expanded Emergency Department include:
- A phased expansion of the Acute treatment area from 11 rooms to 16 rooms including 3 new state-of-the-art critical care resuscitation rooms
- An increase in the number of screening rooms from 4 to 8 to improve efficiency, reducing patient waiting times and allowing clinicians to treat more patients each day without using an ED bed
- Expanded and improved Pediatric and Acute Psychiatric areas to meet the needs of two of our most vulnerable patient populations
- New state-of-the-art decontamination facility to provide rapid treatment of patients exposed to toxic materials and to allow for a more streamlined disaster response
- Covered ambulance parking area with 10 bays and a separate ED entrance to provide improved privacy and protection from inclement weather
- An additional bereavement room for families and visitors receiving difficult news about a loved one
