The MGH ranked third among the country's top hospitals on the annual list of "America's Best Hospitals" issue of U.S. News & World Report. The MGH also ranked among the top hospitals surveyed across the nation in the following specialties: cancer; endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; geriatrics; gynecology; heart and heart surgery; kidney; neurology and neurosurgery; ophthalmology; orthopædics, pulmonary; psychiatry; rheumatology; and urology. For the 15th straight year, MGH Psychiatry was ranked the leading program in the country.
The Best Hospitals list ranks 152 medical centers nationwide in 16 specialties. Rankings in 12 of the 16 specialties are driven by hard data, such as death rates, procedure volume, and balance of nurses and patients. In the four remaining specialties --ophthalmology, psychiatry, rehabilitation and rheumatology --hospitals were ranked on reputation alone. A full list of the MGH specialties and rankings appears below.
In June, MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) was one of only two pediatric hospitals in New England to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report. Among its specialties, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology and neurosurgery, and pulmonology were noted for particular excellence.
The Best Hospitals rankings will be published in the August issue of U.S. News & World Report, available on newsstands July 27. For more information, visit usnews.com/besthospitals.
