Careers In Medicine and ScienceThe AAMC Careers in Medicine Office has recently released a new online resource containing detailed education and career information for 112 medical specialty and subspecialty fields (such as internal medicine, pediatrics, or neurosurgery). The information available for each of these Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education-accredited specialty/subspecialty areas includes: nature of the work; personal characteristics needed; training and residency requirements; match statistics; workforce statistics at national, state, and local levels; salary ranges; and links to relevant specialty organizations, online newsletters and journals. The information for this Careers in Medicine web resource was collected with the help of other national organizations such as the American Board of Medical Specialties, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, National Resident Matching Program, and the American Medical Association. NIH Launches Student Site to Explore Careers in Science, MedicineThe National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Science Education has launched a new Web site, "LifeWorks," which explores more than 100 careers in the health and medical sciences. The site is designed as a resource for middle school and high school students, parents, educators, and school guidance/career counselors to explore the diversity of careers in the field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, health and medical science jobs are expected to be among the fastest growing jobs in the nation over the next 10 years. National Postdoctoral AssociationThe National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) is a member-driven organization that provides a unique, national voice for postdoctoral scholars. The NPA is also a collaborative organization that seeks to work with all stakeholders to improve the postdoctoral experience in the United States. The mission of the NPA is to advance the U.S. research enterprise by maximizing the effectiveness of the research community and enhancing the quality of the postdoctoral experience for all participants.
