Harvard Macy Institute

The Institute works to inspire and promote real organizational change by training individuals, groups, and organizations across the continuum of health science education. Joint Committee on the Status of Women (JCSW)

The Joint Committee on the Status of Women was formed to facilitate the development and contribution of women on Harvard campuses by expanding and improving the opportunities for the advancement of women. The Office for Faculty Affairs is responsible for the implementation and management of the faculty appointment process, governance, and other faculty-related matters at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The Office was established to assist the Faculty of Medicine in its contributions to the education, research, and patient care missions of the School.

HMS Ombuds Office

The Ombudsperson, Linda Wilcox, is an impartial complaint handler who provides objective support for people experiencing interpersonal misunderstandings or conflict. The Ombuds Office offers a safe, neutral place to voice concerns, evaluate situations, organize thoughts, assess feelings, and explore options for handling problems. Option selection can range from informally talking about a concern to requesting a formal grievance - at the discretion of the individual. If desired, the Ombuds can gather information, serve as a shuttle diplomat or mediator, or provide referrals to relevant authorities. This independent office has been established outside the existing administrative or academic structures.

The Ombuds Office serves faculty, staff, trainees, and students at HMS, HSDM, HSPH and faculty and trainees at the affiliated hospitals. She strives to see that the people are treated fairly and equitable. Some appropriate concerns to bring to the office might include:

- intellectual property;
- sexual harassment;
- scientific/professional misconduct
- ethics/whistle blowing;
- racism or other kinds of discrimination;
- working conditions;
- feelings of stress or anxiety;
- personality conflicts/meanness;
- fear of retaliation.
