The Gastrointestinal (GI) Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital is home to excellent patient care and facilities for treatment and diagnosis of digestive ailments, many research laboratories and various training programs for clinicians.
Our specialists employ the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools to ensure the best outcomes for each patient. The research component of the GI Unit embodies a long-standing tradition of basic and clinical research that is at the forefront of scientific discovery. Clinical studies focus on testing the most novel treatments for gastrointestinal disorders, while laboratory work examines the underlying mechanisms of these diseases. The Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease is one of five Digestive Disease Centers in the country, and focuses on finding novel treatments for Inflammatory Bowel diseases and furthering research in this important area.
The GI Unit is home to one of the top-ranked gastroenterology fellowship programs in the country. We also offer training programs for advanced fellows interested in specializing further in specific gastroenterology procedures.
