THE MGH DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY has announced that Richard Hodin, MD, has been appointed as chief for Academic Affairs. In his new role, Hodin – who also will continue in his roles as chief of Endocrine Surgery and surgical director of the MGH Crohn’s and Colitis Center – will be actively involved in faculty development and academic promotions and will join the leadership of the department on the Chiefs’ Council.

A main focus of this new position will be to create a mentorship program aimed at connecting senior faculty with junior members of the department. “This new program will play an important role in helping our faculty advance and achieve higher levels of visibility in their fields,” says Keith Lillemoe, MD, chief of the Department of Surgery. “This role nicely complements the work that Rich has done for a number of years in advising surgical residents and coordinating research activities within the department.”

Hodin says he is thrilled to be part of this new endeavor. “For me, this is a great opportunity to continue doing something I’ve always loved. I especially enjoy helping young people advance in their careers and am particularly looking forward to developing a comprehensive mentorship program.”
