What MGH Fund Gifts Make Possible: An Invaluable Program for Parents with Cancer

A family helped by PACT

Unrestricted gifts to Mass General support a variety of remarkable programs. Among these programs is “Parenting at a Challenging Time” (PACT) — a special service of the Massachusetts General Cancer Center making a real difference for parents and children affected by a cancer diagnosis.

PACT offers adults with cancer, their children and their spouses individual consultation and guidance. The program’s clinicians and staff advise families on such difficult topics as how to talk about cancer with children, how to honestly answer questions while providing reassurance and how to ready young children for hospital visits with a sick parent.

PACT also helps parents navigate the most challenging aspects of balancing their illness with caring for their children, offering advice and solutions for problems ranging from maintaining the child’s normal schedule despite the upheaval cancer brings, to furnishing additional support for the child during particularly trying times.
