Running for a cause

In high gear: MGHfC marathoners put their best foot forward to support the hospital.

Conditions were ideal for the 24, 338 runners registered to run the 115th Boston Marathon. The MGH was well represented at the celebrated race, with 114 individuals taking to the course to support the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit, 11 athletes lacing up for the MGHfC Cystic Fibrosis Program and four students from the MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) racing to support the school. The overall amount raised by the MGHfC runners will be determined in June, but it is estimated to reach up to $650,000. Funds will help support clinical research for pediatric cancer and cystic fibrosis, as well as the HOPES Program, which provides art and music therapy for MGHfCcancer patients. The total amount raised for the IHP is $25,000. Nursing student Kelly Brush came in first in the womenÕs hand cycle division with a time of 1:55:01.
