Star performer: Doyle
On June 2, the vocal talents of six MGH employees filled the Bulfinch Tent during the annual MGH Star Performer competition. This year, the contest partnered with the MGH Fund: My Giving Helps Employee Giving Campaign and was called "Giving with the Stars."
The six finalists who performed at the event were Pearse Lombard of Partners Collaborative Media; Priyasma Bhoumik, PhD, of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard; Reina Powell of Internal Medicine; Michael Doyle of the Histology Lab; Megan Borase of the Cardiovascular Research Center; and Nancia Pierre of Psychiatry. Doyle, who performed "My Girl," edged out Pierre and her version of Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy" by a handful of audience votes, earning him the title of this year's MGH Star Performer.
During the show, Doyle's fans kept the crowd lively, holding up signs and even blowing a vuvuzela.
"When I saw my coworkers cheering me on it completely calmed my nerves and actually helped me perform better," he said. "My colleagues are more than just colleagues, theyÕre also my friends, and they fully supported me throughout my journey to become the 2011 MGH Star Performer."
