Teeing up for the Durant Fellowship

FRIENDLY COMPETITION: From left, Slavin, Connors, Loeffler, Martignetti and Torchiana

Raising nearly $70,000 this year, the annual Thomas S. Durant, MD, Golf Tournament was held June 18 at the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville, Mass. The tournament honors the late Durant, a beloved MGH physician and humanitarian, and benefits the Thomas S. Durant Fellowship for Refugee Medicine program at the MGH Center for Global Health. Directed by MGH primary care physician Laurence Ronan, MD, the Durant Fellowship offers health care providers a unique opportunity to travel abroad to serve refugee and displaced populations.

Some 90 players participated in the 2012 tournament, including Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president; Jay Loeffler, MD, chief of Radiation Oncology; David F. Torchiana, MD, chairman and CEO of the MGPO; Jack Connors, former chair of the Partners HealthCare Board of Directors; and Carl J. Martignetti, chair of the MGH President’s Council.
