Harris Center in the Media

As part of our public awareness campaign, the Harris Center continues to provide information to media representatives and book authors. Here are highlights of our collaboration with the media from this past year.



October, 2008
O, The Oprah Magazine, published Eating Disorder Report: Starving for a Drink, in which Dr. David Herzog discussed the dangers of alcohol abuse in individuals with eating disorders.



September, 2008
TV Fox 25 News in Boston featured an interview with Dr. David Herzog on Pressure on Moms to be Thin.

Newton magazine published Excellence without Excess: A Newton Doctor's Team Approach Helps Athletes Conquer Eating Disorders (PDF-1,163 KB).



June, 2008
“Starved for Adequate Care,” an op-ed by Dr. David Herzog, Nancy Matsumoto and Dr. Marcia Herrin ran in the Los Angeles Times on June 28, 2008.

In a feature on nonprofit organizations, the summer, 2008 issue of Boston Common magazine showcased 5 photographs from the Harris Center's March 11, 2008 Public Forum.



March, 2008
TV Fox 25 Morning News featured an interview with Dr. David Herzog on Kids and Body Image.

Several TV networks, including Fox 25, and a number of newspapers -- Women's Wear Daily, The Boston Globe, and The Boston Herald -- covered the Harris Center's 12th Annual Public Forum, "Redefining Perfection: Beauty, Fashion and Body Image." In addition, New York magazine on-line referred to Bradley Bayou's presentation at our Forum in Designer Bradley Bayou Calls Out CFDA for Too-Thin Models.



February 11, 2008
The Northwest Indiana Times published "Plagued by Fat Thoughts," in which Dr. David Herzog discussed the dangers of media images that idealize thinness. The article summarized Unlocking the Mysteries of Eating Disorders and offered information from the Harris Center about ways to resist unhealthy cultural messages about body size and shape.



January, 2008
Dr. David Herzog and Dr. Debra Franko wrote an article titled "Warning Signs of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa" for the Women's Sports Foundation.
