Finding Treatment
It can be difficult to locate services for eating disorders, but there are places to find
help for you or someone you know. Here are some ways to get started.
- Check with your family physician.
- Contact your local hospital. Eating disorder programs and services may be available
through psychiatry or adolescent medicine departments.
- Contact student health services at local colleges. Some colleges participate in eating
disorders screening programs.
- Contact a hotline. In Massachusetts call the Massachusetts Eating Disorder Association at (617) 558-1881. In other regions, call the National Eating Disorders Association Information and Referral Hotline (800) 931-2237.
- Inquire at local therapy institutes and counseling centers. They may refer you to
individual specialists, self-help groups, or support groups for family and friends.
Successful treatment of eating disorders often requires coordinated care provided by a
physician, nutritionist, and therapist.
