Outpatient Cardiac Nursing
Nurses are a central part of outpatient care at the Heart Center. Nursing staff serve as liaisons and educators for new patients entering the Heart Center. For example, the Outpatient Cardiac Access Nurse is the primary facilitator between patients or referring physicians and the Heart Center and ensures a timely appointment with the most appropriate physician or specialty care service.
Depending on the nurse's specialty and expertise, cardiac nurses contribute to many different aspects of a patient's clinical experience. Nurse practitioners provide clinical assessments and treatments through a coordinated plan of care with the patient and the patient's cardiologist. Nurses in the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center are experts in intensive, individualized cardiac risk factor management for both primary and secondary prevention of heart disease, and echo and nuclear cardiology nurses supervise diagnostic cardiac testing for a variety of cardiac conditions.
In addition to patient care, many Heart Center nurses contribute to nursing professional development, public health forums and the latest cardiac research protocols. Nurses provide patients and families with information on the latest cardiac research.
Outpatient nurses are located in:
- Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care (Yawkey 5B and 5E)
- 25 New Chardon Street
- 55 Fruit Street (Bigelow 800, Gray/Bigelow 109 and Cox 6)
- Mass General Hospital research facilities
