Dr. Shaw primarily sees adult patients referred for evaluation of genetic, inherited causes of cardiovascular disease.

He received his A.B. in Chemistry and Physics summacum laude from Harvard College, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his Ph.D.(Biophysics) from Harvard University. He is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, and a principal investigator in the Center for Systems Biology at MGH, where he directs a research group and is Co-Director of Chemical Biology.  He is also a faculty member in the MGH Cardiovascular Research Center, an associate faculty member in the MGH Center for Human Genetic Research, and an associate researcher at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.

Research Summary
Dr. Shaw's laboratoryseeks to develop new approaches to phenotype or classify patients at thecellular level, and correlate these phenotypes with their geneticsusceptibility to disease.  These goalsare pursued using a variety of approaches, including targeted nanoparticles formolecular imaging, phenotyping of patient-derived cells, high-throughput screening of drugs and chemicals, and extracting phenotypes from electronic medical records (EMR) usingnatural language processing. The ultimate objective is to incorporate novelphenotypes into patient-oriented studies, andexplore their utility in improving the classification, diagnosis and riskstratification of patients.
