The founder of the MGH Cardiac Performance Program – a pioneering initiative combining extensive research and comprehensive care for athletes and other active individuals – recently was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of sports cardiology. Adolph M. Hutter Jr., MD, was named the inaugural Macomber Family Endowed Scholar for Cardiovascular Performance Innovation during a Sept. 24 ceremony at the Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation. The endowment was established through the generosity of George and Ann Macomber, longtime supporters of the MGH.
“Dolph’s appointment as the first Macomber scholar is a fitting tribute to an accomplished physician, educator and researcher,” said MGH President Peter L. Slavin, MD. “Dolph and his team are leading the way in making discoveries that promote the health of competitive athletes as well as heart patients who want to preserve an active lifestyle.”
During the celebration, remarks were also given by the Macombers, Dennis Ausiello, MD, chief of the Department of Medicine, and William Dec, MD, chief of the Cardiology Division.
“I am honored to be named the first Macomber scholar,” says Hutter. “The entire Macomber family is made up of highly accomplished competitive skiers and their support of this program is especially meaningful.”
