Our Approach
Our Doctors
Lipid management services at the Massachusetts General Hospital Corrigan Minehan Heart Center provide specialized care for patients who have disorders of lipid metabolism, which includes high cholesterol levels, high blood triglyceride levels, low HDL cholesterol levels or a combination of these conditions. Patients visit lipid management specialists if they have difficulties tolerating the most widely prescribed cholesterol-lowering medications (statins).
Lipid disorders are often associated with other metabolic problems, such as diabetes, hypothyroidism and obesity. Our clinical team evaluates these disorders as they relate to problems with abnormal lipids.
Lipid management specialists have complete access to a wealth of clinical resources within Mass General, including:
- Nutrition and exercise programs within the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center
- LDL apheresis treatment
Our team is made up of medical experts from several disciplines to effectively evaluate and treat lipid metabolism disorders.
