Software developed by Michael Zalis and his Massachusetts General Hospital colleague Mitchell Harris harnesses search-engine technology to help physicians access disparate records.
Connecting electronic medical records
Even as use of EMR (electronic medical record) systems increases, medical records are spread over multiple databases that don't necessarily communicate with each other. Over the past five years, a team led by Michael Zalis and his Massachusetts General Hospital colleague Mitchell Harris developed a program called Queriable Patient Inference Dossier. The program combines a search engine with a programming system to automatically pull data from various EMRs (electronic medical records) and databases.
