Biography
Suhny Abbara, MD is the Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Section of the Cardiac Imaging Division, Department of Radiology at Masachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and is Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. He is a graduate of the Heinrich-Heine-University of D?sseldorf, Germany where he successfully defended his thesis and completed 18 months of vascular surgery training. He completed a Surgical Internship at the University of Hawaii, Radiology Residency at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and a Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at MGH where he has been on the faculty since 2003.
Dr. Abbara has made extensive contributions to the field of cardiovascular computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. His bibliography so far lists more than 110 articles in peer reviewed journals as well as numerous book chapters, and monographs and two text books. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular CT, is Editor of the cardiac imaging sections of the "Year Book of Diagnostic Radiology" and of E-clips consult, and is editorial board member or ad hoc reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals.
He is a Director of the Certification Board of Cardiovascular CT (CBCCT) and of the Board of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT).

Text books:MGH Hotline 1.15.10 An MGH study has found that relatively young men with longstanding HIV infection and minimal cardiac risk factors have significantly more coronary atherosclerotic plaques -- some involving serious arterial blockage -- than do uninfected men.
A large study to be published in the August issue of the American Journal of Medicine reports a record radiation dose reduction of 74.8% to MGH Cardiac CT patients during the past 6 years.
