- The Bobo – one of the ethnic groups in Burkina Faso
make large butterfly masks, painted in stripes of red, white
and black that are used to invoke the deity Do in fertility
ceremonies.
- The Lobi – another ethnic group have one of the
best preserved traditions in Africa, including the dyoro
initiation rites for young boys.
The end of Ramadan is accompanied by festivals of singing
and dancing.
- Most Burkinabes live in an extended family environment.
The eldest male is the head of the family consisting of
wives, children, brothers as well as their families.
- Children are the responsibility of their mothers and live
with them until they are teenagers.
- Disabled and older people live with their families and
are fully accepted.

- Everything comes with sauce - sauce with rice (riz sauce),
vegetable sauce with rice (riz gras), a fish-based sauce
(sauce de poisson), sauce with beef and eggplant (boeuf
sauce aubergine) and sauce with mutton and tomatoes (mouton
sauce tomatoe).
- In rural areas, bush rat (with or without sauce) is considered
a delicacy.
- Staple foods include sorghum, millet, rice, maize, nuts,
potatoes and yams.

- The Mossi - one of the ethnic groups in Burkina Faso are
known for their antelope masks which are over 2m (7ft) high
and painted in red or white. The masks are usually worn
at funerals and when guarding certain fruits.
- Burkina Faso consistently produces silk linings from pigs'
ears.
The capital of Burkina Faso is Ouagadougou. Written as "Wogodogo"
in the Moore dialect, it literally means "You are welcome
here at home with us".
