- Family is a great source of stability and support .
- A man’s honor is based on how well he cares for
the women in his care.
- Just before the marriage vows begin there is a musical
wedding march called the Zaffa. There is traditional Egyptian
music, belly dancers, drums horns and performers with flaming
swords.
- Traditionally, Egyptians believed that the ring finger
has the "vein amoris", the vein of love, which
runs straight to the heart.
- A party is given for the one-week-old infant. On this
day relatives, friends, neighbors and children come to see
the newborn child there will be lighted candles, flowers
and samples of the fruits of the earth.
Friends of the same sex generally shake hands and kiss on
the right and left cheeks.
- If greeting after a long absence the kisses may be repeated
more than once.
- Men greet women with a handshake only if the woman extends
her hand first.

- The plant known as melokiyah more commonly known in English
as Jew’s Mallow is eaten as a medicinal vegetable
providing folk remedies for ailments such as aches and pains,
dysentery, enteritis, fever, pectoral pain and tumors.
- The leaves are used for cystitis and gonorrhea. A cold
infusion of the leaves is believed to improve appetite and
restore strength.

- Muslims do not eat pork or drink alcohol.
- The country's staple food is fuul, a kind of broad bean.
In Fuul madammes the beans are cooked and mashed with potatoes,
onions and spices. For breakfast , a fried or boiled egg
is added on top.
- Tameya - full patties deep fried and seasoned - is served
in pitta bread with some salad and pickles. Shawerma - slices
of pressed, pit-roasted lamb with seasoning.
- Hamam pigeon - served with wheat stuffing , or stewed
with onions, tomatoes, and rice in a tajine, an earthenware
pot.
- Umm 'Aly- Bread pudding made with coconut mild, cinnamon
and roasted nuts.
- Coffee is served thick and strong and without milk.
